Salt of the Earth

Matthew 5:13 –  You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet (ESV)

Why Not Sugar or Honey

Jesus used the metaphor of being the salt of the earth rather than sugar or honey to convey deeper meanings. Salt, unlike sugar or honey, has unique properties and symbolism that align with the spiritual message Jesus wanted to convey. Firstly, salt’s ability to enhance flavor makes it a powerful symbol of the transformative influence believers should have in the world. Just as salt brings out the best taste in food, Christians are called to bring out the best in others, to add value and flavor to their lives through love, kindness, and positive influence.

Secondly, salt also acts as a preservative, preventing decay and corruption. Christians are tasked with upholding moral values, opposing injustice, and preserving righteousness in society. Salt’s ability to sting wounds symbolizes believers’ role in challenging sin and wrongdoing, fostering repentance and righteousness. This metaphor encapsulates Christians’ multifaceted impact, enhancing goodness, preserving values, and confronting sin.

Bring Out The Best In Others

Jesus, in his wisdom, advises us not to seek the universal appeal of sugar or honey but to embody the qualities of salt in our character. Instead of aiming for universal likability and sweetness, we should strive to bring out the best in those around us, just as salt enhances flavor. Jesus faced hatred and eventual crucifixion for rebuking wrongdoing during his time on earth. However, those close to him, like the apostles, experienced transformation and rose to prominence in the early church. His teachings continue to inspire and guide us toward righteousness and impactful living.

We should try to mirror our lives through the lens of Jesus by the way we speak. The way we reason. The things we allow to gain access into our mind. The people we allow into our lives. Most of all we should always stand in the path of truth and righteousness.

Children adore sugary treats like candies because of the sweet coating. Honey, produced by bees, requires enduring bee stings to obtain. However, children don’t play with salt; instead, it’s used by cooks to enhance the taste of food, bringing delight to many. Let’s strive to be the salt of the world today.

Remember God loves you much more than you can ever imagine and waiting for you in open arms to receive you when u pray.

Remain Blessed Always
