Verse Of the Day
Galatians 5.13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another (ESV).
The Mark of Freedom
If you’ve experienced debt firsthand or know someone who has, you understand its profound impact. Debt strips away your ownership of money, time, and resources—they’re continuously taken, often with added interest. No one desires to be bound to a lender, yet each of us has faced a debt we could never fully repay. The ancient Greek term for “sin” translates to “missing the mark,” originally describing an archer’s arrow veering off target. In archery, hitting anywhere but the center meant failure. Similarly, in Scripture, God sets a standard for us to aim for—but we consistently fall short. We err when favoring selfishness over humility, anger over gentleness, falsehoods, theft, slander, complaints, and gossip. These actions deviate from God’s command to love others and hinder us from realizing our full potential. Sin disrupts our alignment with God’s purpose, pulling our arrow off the mark. Although God designed us above all creation, sin causes us to fall short of our intended greatness.
He Paid Our Debt With His Blood
The incredible news is that Jesus sacrificed Himself to save us from our mistakes. The Bible teaches that even when we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Our debt of sin is insurmountable, as logically, you cannot cleanse a dirty body with dirty water. In the Old Testament, animal blood was used for sin forgiveness, but the New Testament brings a new covenant that requires a superior form of blood for ultimate sin cleansing—a blood superior to that of animals and humans. Since we are inherently sinful (starting from Adam), we cannot cleanse ourselves of our wrongdoing. Therefore, God made Jesus, who is without sin, to bear our sins so that we can become righteous in God’s eyes. He freed us from sin in one moment through His sacrifice. Because of this, He desires us to live as liberated individuals.
When we engage in actions that separate us from God’s Spirit—whether through legalism or lawlessness—we undermine the freedom Jesus granted us. However, when we choose to love others as Jesus loved us, it reflects our appreciation for His sacrifice and our desire to embrace the freedom He provided.
How Do You Live Free My Dear?
You accept that what Jesus did was enough for you, and then commit to loving Him. As your love for God grows, His Spirit helps you unconditionally to love others. The Spirit empowers you to forgive rather than hold grudges. It guides you to encourage rather than hurt others. It inspires you to serve humbly instead of using people. The more you love, the more you embrace freedom in the lord. And because of God’s love, nothing can take your freedom away for this said in the bible that nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus- not even the angels in heaven (Romans 8.38). It’s a good feeling knowing that you are in the good books of the creator and owner of this world.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of freedom. Guide me to serve others with love and humility just like Jesus did. Help me use this freedom wisely, living with purpose and bringing joy through service. Amen
Overcoming Addiction
I write to you, young men and women, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one (ESV 1 John 2.14)
