Living by God’s Standards: Are We Right with God?

Youth Bible Study

Verse Of the Day

  • Psalm 66:18 – If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.
  • Proverbs 28.9 – If one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.
  • Isaiah 59.2- but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear
  • John 9.31 – We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him
  • 1 Peter 4:7 – The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers

Question 1  What is Sin?

According to the Oxford Dictionary, “sin is an immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law.” By “against divine law,” it means that sin is directed at those who belong to the divine kingdom. This kingdom, known as Christendom, is ruled by God Almighty, who is supreme above everything.

Question 2 What is Prayer?

According to the Oxford Dictionary, prayer is “a solemn request for help or an expression of thanks addressed to God or another deity.” In Christendom, we take pride in being the chosen people of Almighty God through Jesus Christ. We devote ourselves to morning prayers, evening prayers, and intermittent prayers daily. Whenever we face problems, we turn to God in prayer, seeking His help and salvation.

Looking into today’s bible verses which outline that once we break the divine law by sinning that no matter how much we pray God will not listen to us – it even went ahead to say that God hates to hear such prayers from unrepentant sinners.

We Fear Men More Than God

We diligently follow earthly laws. Diligently pay our bills on time, fearing the immediate consequences of neglect—darkness for unpaid electricity, incarceration for crime, and even deportation for legal transgressions. But why do these earthly consequences hold such weight, while the potential consequences of disobeying God’s laws often seem distant or even ignored?

Yet, the question arises: Why don’t we extend the same respect to God’s laws? Why do we allow ourselves to sin repeatedly, causing God grief? True repentance requires more than mere words.

As the scripture suggests, God may reject prayers from those who lack genuine remorse.

Question 3  Are we right with God?

Are we living by God’s standards and keeping His commandments? Is there any sin in our lives that displeases God? What iniquity is preventing us from receiving His mercy and grace? We are not perfect and, as humans, we are bound to sin due to our sinful nature. Proverbs 24:16 says, “A righteous man sins seven times a day.” God knows this, which is why He said in Hosea 6:6, “For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.” The Psalmist understood God deeply, which is why in Psalm 51:17, he said, “My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.”

No wonder David was considered a man after God’s own heart. God knows we are prone to sin, but He is not interested in our religious activities; He is interested in our hearts. How much repentance have we shown? Are we truly remorseful for our sins and resolved never to commit them again? If so, God’s love and forgiveness are boundless. Let us seek true repentance and live a life that reflects our love for Him.

My Dear Youth

Remember, God is also a consuming fire who will judge the living and the dead according to their deeds. 2 Peter 2:4 God did not spare even the angels who sinned. He threw them into hell, in gloomy pits of darkness, where they are being held until the day of judgment- so if we keep grieving God without genuine repentance we are very much  assured we will not be spared rather we will pay heavily for the sin for all eternity to come

Today let us examine our hearts – ask God to take prominence and if there be any sin or iniquity let God take us through the process of true repentance so that we will be right in the face of God – so that when we kneel and pray he will hear us. And when our life is done on earth we will meet him in heaven.

As we continue to do so may God bless and abide with us through Christ our lord amen. If we have a chance let’s pray psalm 51.

Prayer

“Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You today seeking strength for my faith. Give me the courage to embody Your truth in every facet of my life. Help me radiate Your love to those around me. May our connection be the cornerstone upon which I build my life, and may I always strive to bring You honor in all my endeavors. Amen.”
