Living Out Jesus’ Commandment: Love God, Love Your Neighbor

Youth Bible Study

Verse Of The day

Mark 12:28-31 – And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Jesus Knows the Heart of the Father

This is a very important verse in the Bible as it touches both the laws of God and the laws of man. Once again, the teachers of the law in a bid to trap Jesus were dumbfounded with his answer and he was able to give them more than they could chew. This verse once again x-rays the character of Jesus which is worthy of emulation. For  Someone who is deeply rooted in his father, the bond between them is unshakable. Both think the same thing, like Jesus said “He lives in me and I and him”.

God Craves Intimacy

Loving God our lord with all we have means God should be at the center of our lives. God should be our watchword. We should breathe God and see God in all we do. Similar verse in Hosea 6:6 God said “I rather have my people give me constant love than giving me an animal burnt offering. This means God craves our love. It’s not traditional love as can be seen in most communities where they are more religious than pious. It’s not all about going to church rather to love God means to have that much craving for the things of God. It doesn’t stop at morning prayer alone, we should talk to God In our hearts throughout the day. Even when we fall short of temptation we should meet him at the throne of grace with remorse and reconnect back to him.

In the second sentence, we should love our neighbor as ourselves. Before leaving this earth Jesus, upgraded this commandment, he told his apostles “Love your neighbors as I have loved you”. And Who is your neighbor? Jesus graciously gave an example with the parable of the good Samaritan and with that you should endeavor to put effort into radiating the same love at the place you live, among your siblings, the place you work, and people you meet daily. Each of them should testify that truly God is living in you.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, fill me with Your boundless love, the same love You shower upon me. Grant me the ability to see my neighbors through Your compassionate eyes. Reveal opportunities to serve them, allowing Your love to shine through my actions. Amen.
