Palm Sunday Perspectives: Woekey’s Role in a Divine Drama

WOEKEY & DOEKEY SERIES. ONE

Woekey’s Short Lived Stardom

In a town called Jerusalem, there lived a donkey named Woekey, while his friend, Doekey, resided in a nearby village outside of Jerusalem. Both of them had initially dwelled in Bethlehem until their respective owners decided to seek greener pastures elsewhere. Fortunately, destiny smiled upon them, as their owners settled not far from each other. Consequently, the donkeys would occasionally meet either in Jerusalem or just outside the city. One day, something remarkable and humorous occurred to Woekey. He excitedly narrated to Doekey that just yesterday, as he entered Jerusalem, thousands of people had come out to cheer for him. What’s more, they even placed palm fronds on the ground for him to walk on

To embellish the tale, Woekey added that humans, known for their ingratitude, had even spread their clothes on the ground for him to tread upon. Doekey listened attentively, shedding tears of joy at the thought that humans had finally recognized their worth. Filled with happiness, they decided to recreate this event by walking through the gates of Jerusalem once more, allowing Woekey to relish the fame. With great enthusiasm, they embarked on their journey toward Jerusalem. As they neared the city gate, their hearts pounded with excitement, anticipating an even more jubilant welcome this time, as there were two of them.

The Disappointment

However, to their astonishment, when they entered Jerusalem, nothing happened. No one seemed to notice them, even when they attempted to bray loudly. Adding to the disappointment, a centurion speeding by with chariots of horses nearly ran them over. Woekey couldn’t fathom the situation, and Doekey, perplexed as well, Doekey asked, “What load were you carrying when you entered Jerusalem yesterday?”Woekey replied, “I carried neither gold nor silver nor any precious stones. I was carrying a man, an ordinary citizen, not even a Roman governor, soldier, or member of the Sanhedrin. If he were special, he would have chosen an elegant horse or a decorated chariot or even a camel. The frenzy and praise couldn’t have been for the man I carried.

Flashback

“Doekey remembered a story his father had told him as a child. It was about a child born in an animal farm, and moments after the birth, shepherds rushed in, bowing to the child. They claimed to have seen an angelic vision, indicating that this child, born in humble circumstances, would be the king of the Israelites who would deliver them from oppression. Doekey continued, “If, by a million-to-one chance, it was that same child now grown up whom you were carrying, then the glory was for that man, not you, Woekey.” “What should we do?” Woekey asked,

 Doekey Speaks

My dear friend Woekey, it’s clear: our path to glory lies in finding and carrying that man on our backs. Without him, we’re just ordinary donkeys. But with him, we’ll be honored beyond measure. He’s the one who uplifts the humble, turning ordinary journeys into triumphs. Remember, he could have chosen a majestic horse or camel, but he chose you, Woekey, a donkey

Now Pay Heed To This

“His name is Jesus Christ, and just as he uplifted the lowly, exemplified in Woekey’s short-lived moment of glory, so too did he enter Jerusalem on what we now call Palm Sunday. The multitude hailed him with ‘Hosanna! Hosanna!’ as they laid palm fronds before him, symbolizing his humility and servant leadership. This event portrays Jesus, the King of Glory, choosing humility over political or military dominance, seeking to win hearts for the Kingdom of Heaven. The significance of this sacrifice resonates throughout the Easter period.”

To You Little One, The Question is

Whose servant are we, and whom do we carry on our back on a daily basis? Do we carry stubbornness? Do we carry disobedience? Do we carry anger? Do we carry malice? Do we carry gossips? Today, Jesus is telling us to let go of all those heavy burdens and instead carry these things:

  • Joy and laughter, for they will fill your heart with warmth and make those around you happy.
  • Peace and love, so that you can spread harmony among your friends and family.
  • Obedience, so that you can attract special blessings from your parents.
  • Humility, so that God will lift you up, for He is the One who uplifts the humble.

Remember, Woekey and Doekey decided to seek Jesus in order to regain their glory. Are you seeking your glory? Practice these virtues mentioned above, and you will see Jesus smiling at you daily, and the glory He gave to Woekey shall be yours as well. Above all, the best seekers of God are not those who seek Jehovah Rapha (God the Healer) or Jehovah Jireh (God the Provider); rather, the best seekers are those who seek Jehovah Zephaniah (God of the secret place). Only they can seek God not just for what He gives but to know Him and stay in His presence. To such people, God is willing to give everything in abundance.”
