Bible Studies For Couples
Verse Of The Day
Obadiah 1:21 And saviors shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau, and the kingdom shall be the LORD’s.
The Woman At The Well
Before delving into Obadiah, let’s reflect on the powerful story of a woman ostracized by her community. Despite her past mistakes, Jesus offered her compassion and revealed Himself as the Messiah. Transformed by this encounter, she returned to her town, not with shame, but with a burning desire to share the good news. Her enthusiasm sparked a revival, with many Samaritans recognizing Jesus as their Savior. This inspiring story challenges us: How can we emulate the Samaritan woman’s zeal? How can we share our faith and lead others to Jesus?
Obadiah’s Mount Zion & Mount Esau
In today’s biblical context, Obadiah refers to the saviors as the man and woman who unite in marriage, standing as a beacon of judgment against the decayed state of marital institutions akin to Mount Esau. Much like the impactful presence of the woman at the well, can your union similarly embody the essence of Christ and secure divine territory? Do observers perceive the living water of Christ flowing through your unity? Rather than looking to others as role models, let them look up to you as examples of heavenly virtues in speech, appearance, and interactions. While it’s good to present oneself well and enjoy life, it’s essential that others witness the righteousness of God reflected in your lives.
As Couples
Are you merely existing on this earth without a higher purpose, indulging in worldly pleasures like animals, and then passing away? No, you are part of a divine order, operating in alignment with the Creator’s design for this world. Moreover, your union as a couple signifies a sacred territory entrusted to you. Do not allow yourselves to be ensnared by the distractions, pleasures, confusion, and challenges orchestrated by the forces of darkness. Their aim is to strip you of this sacred territory, leading to judgment rather than being stewards of it. Just as Adam and Eve lost their divine inheritance by yielding to temptation, the enemy uses subtle tactics to entice you away from God’s plan. Therefore, today’s message encourages you to stand firm, fulfilling the purpose and mission entrusted to you as a couple by God.
Regarding The Marriage Institution
Friendships that involve excessive drinking, late nights, and partying can be a slippery slope for a spouse, potentially leading to legal issues or neglecting responsibilities. This can cause confusion and direction lessness for his children and spouse, representing the destructive intentions of evil forces. Alternatively, he or she might maintain responsibility and devotion but face challenges like encountering suggestive erotic content online, which, if not managed carefully, can lead to immoral behavior and ultimately harm his or her marriage through adultery. Concealing these actions may lead to marital breakdown and emotional burdens for both spouses, potentially affecting their spiritual well-being and judgment. However, by seeking God, immersing in His teachings, and living according to biblical principles, a couple can become ambassadors of Christ, drawing others to Him and establishing their marriage as a model of righteousness and integrity.
As it affects the next Generation
Picture a scenario where you and your partner are the sole individuals in a particular community selected by God to further His intentions through your union. Picture everyone in that community acknowledging the peace that radiates from your union, recognizing the divine glory that shines through you consistently. Consider the story of Babylon, a city steeped in immorality, where Daniel, despite being a slave, exemplified God’s glory to such an extent that he rose to prominence in the kingdom. The institution of marriage serves as a powerful means through which God restores order to society. When a marriage is infused with righteousness, it becomes a catalyst for the growth of righteous generations. As the population increases, a community of upright individuals emerges, paving the way for a society rooted in righteousness. This transformative process begins with the commitment and righteousness of both husband and wife.
