Verse Of the Day

Proverbs 18.21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits (ESV)

Your Words Matter So much

Think of a time you said something you regret, or were the target of undeserved gossip. Now, reflect on a situation where you encouraged a friend who was hurting or felt the life-giving effects of someone else’s words. Words matter. Your words matter. And, God has given you the freedom to choose how you use them. Are you using your words to tear down or build up? To provoke destruction or stimulate restoration? Do your words stir up drama or encourage peace? A wise man once said that words are life – once delivered they take up a form in the life of another person either to encourage and energize them or to hunt them for the rest of their lives.

Words Unveil The Heart’s Hidden Thoughts

Jesus taught in Luke 6:45 that our words reflect the state of our hearts. Just as fruit indicates the health of a tree, our words reveal what’s inside us because we speak from the abundance of our hearts. While many of us aim to speak positively, circumstances often lead us astray. We may unintentionally hurt others with unkind or critical words. James 3 describes the tongue as uncontrollable, capable of causing harm despite its small size. It’s compared to an arrow that, once released, cannot be taken back. How many negative arrows have we shot into people’s lives? How many have suffered because of our words? This behavior opposes God’s will and aligns with the destructive agenda of the devil, who seeks humanity’s downfall. Is there a way to control our tongues and speak with kindness and wisdom?

Taming The Tongue

The Holy Spirit produces self-control in us, meaning we cannot control our tongues alone. However, we play a role by staying close to Jesus. By reading His Word, seeking His face, and following His ways, we receive fresh starts despite our mistakes. This closeness allows love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control to develop in us. This is known biblically as abiding in Jesus’ presence, where the Holy Spirit helps us speak and act differently. This transformation leads to joy and peace flowing from our hearts, replacing negative words. As a result, our words bring life and hope, becoming a source of strength and healing for others. The Holy Spirit can even empower our words beyond emotions, enabling us to heal, revive, and transform situations according to God’s will. Thus, our tongues can be used positively to advance God’s agenda in our lives.

How to Energize Your Words

Ask God to grant you the grace during prayer. Also, ask God to grant you wisdom. Infuse grace and love while speaking. Endeavor to speak the truth at all times. As a true Christian add faith to your words. Speak from the point of revelation as the spirit leads.  Abide in the word always so that the word will abide in you and by so doing you always speak in the name of Jesus which brings forth positive results.

Practical Christian For You My Dear

So this week, how will you use your words to bring healing and hope to people? If this isn’t something you’re used to doing, it’s never too early to speak words that spark life in someone. Charity they say begins from home – so start with your family and gradually move to society.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that my tongue sometimes speaks before my mind and heart are in alignment. I am often too hasty in speaking and I ask for forgiveness for the thoughtless words I have uttered. I am remorseful for the times I spoke out of anger or engaged in gossip. Please guide me to recognize moments when I am about to speak impulsively and to examine my heart before speaking. Grant me the wisdom to be slow in my speech. Help me, Lord, to be a vessel of loving words, filled with Your Spirit, brimming with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, and self-control. Amen

Overcoming Addiction

I write to you, young men and women, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one (ESV 1 John 2.14)
